Brand summary

Velvet Aftercare is a private, nurse-led post-operative concierge service. It provides structured check-ins, secure messaging, and red-flag escalation during the 30-day recovery window after elective surgery — the weeks where most patients feel the most alone, and where small concerns can compound into avoidable complications.

The service was founded by Dr. Lydia Smith, FNP, MSN, DNP — a doctorally-prepared Family Nurse Practitioner who built Velvet after watching too many patients leave surgery with brilliant outcomes and almost no support during the recovery weeks that determine whether those outcomes hold.

The premise

"Surgery is the easy part. Recovery is where you need someone."

Velvet Aftercare

Most patients leave the operating room with a printout, a six-week surgical follow-up, and a quiet phone. The result is a structural gap: the days and weeks where a clinical question — "is this normal?" — has no clinician on the other end of the line. Velvet exists to fill that gap with a calm, competent, single-clinician presence.

Dr. Lydia Smith, FNP, MSN, DNP

Founding Clinician, Velvet Aftercare

Dr. Smith is a Family Nurse Practitioner with a doctorate in nursing practice (DNP). She founded Velvet Aftercare to address a gap she observed across cosmetic, plastic, and elective surgical recovery: brilliant surgical outcomes paired with minimal structured support during the days and weeks after discharge.

Velvet is built around her clinical voice — calm, attentive, structured — and Velvet remains intentionally small so that the founder's care philosophy doesn't dilute as the service grows.

What Velvet is — and isn't

What Velvet does: scheduled post-operative check-ins on day 1, 3, 7, and 14 after discharge; secure messaging access; clinical guidance on common recovery questions; red-flag escalation to the patient's surgeon's office on the patient's behalf.

What Velvet does not do: prescribe medications; provide emergency care; replace the patient's surgeon or primary care provider; bill insurance; provide care outside the licensed clinician's state(s).
